ACHIEVEMENTS
The Golden Globes for Best Actor - Comedy or Musical was first
presented in 1951 as an independent category by the Hollywood
Foreign Press Association. Prior to that year there was only one
category that rewarded all the leading actors regardless of the
genre of the film in which they performed, this had the name Best
actor in a movie. This division allowed the actors of dramatic
concept to be rewarded with a specific prize: Golden Globe for the
best actor - Drama. The formal title has varied since its
inceptionand since 2005 it is officially called:
Best performance of an actor in a comedy or musical film.
